2013 – A New Year And New Aspirations
Legacy has a contentious sign on its locked entry gate during our extended Christmas to New Year closure. It advises disappointed visitors that we are closed “…as a challenge to the pervasive culture of speed and consumerism” throughout the peak shopping period. What must they think?Whilst prosperity in 2013 is my wish for all our relatives, friends and patrons, my greater hope is that the New Year sees this wealth invested in purchases having enduring value. On the personal side, air-fares to visit us in lieu of christmas gifts proved to be an investment that will yield many happy returns for our family members. In Sunday school I learned that giving a man a fish will temporarily sate him but teaching him to fish is a gift that lasts a lifetime. Everyone has talent and skills. Sometimes they just need a push, the tools or the materials. What better gift can there be than one that helps a person create rather than ‘buy’? Our patrons are more akin to artists than consumers. At Legacy’s imagination market we see people’s dreams realized everyday…. Can’t think where I’d rather be….
