This early antique wishbone lock, crafted for a right-hand door, was found in Scotland. This is the first step away from thumb latch technology. A spindle that connects the two knobs passes through a cam mounted in the plate, whereby any rotational motion of a knob is translated to vertical motion of the latch bar.
The components for these platelocks are typically mounted on a square plate, which makes the locks very portable. However, this rare piece features a keyhole-shaped plate and a privacy feature.
The plate is 8" wide and 5" tall, and the keeper is recently made.
Although tiny Georgian brass knobs are available and correct ($70/pr) when paired with a recently made Georgian-style rosette ($30), any combination of knobs and exterior trims can be used. Shop for "Parts and Components" in the Three Centuries of Hardware dropdown menu.
