Collection: Thumblatches

The most enduring form of a two-way access latch for doors is the humble thumblatch... a technology used for centuries. Because a simple single-digit effort raises the latchbar and gravity returns it to rest, this technology has never been surpassed for simplicity nor reliability. It does the job with only two moving parts and no springs.

Note: We inventory hundreds of hand-forged, clipped-corner, cast, Eastlake, stamped, brass, iron and steel thumblatches "in the rough". Upon request, these original antique thumb latches can be restored and are available in many sizes with a combination of latchbolts, guides and keepers to suit your needs.

Most of the Antique sets display replacement components; the original latch bars, guides, and keepers have been lost over time. Where practical, Legacy has substituted vintage or recently-made replacements that are as "correct" as possible.
