Early hand-forged Suffolk thumblatch with spade terminals ca. 1740-1840

Classic spade shapes form the upper and lower terminals on this hand-hammered Suffolk thumblatch set. The blacksmith's talent with his hammer is evidenced by the markings left by each blow to the handle and latch bar.

The handle is 2 134" wide, 10 3/4 " tall, with a 10" latch bar and the set features a guide and keeper meant to be driven and peened when installed.
