Heavy-duty cut and forged steel Norfolk thumblatch ca. 1840 -1940

This imposing Norfolk thumblatch has a 3/16" thick steel backplate hosting the patterned handle with a floral-shaped upper extremity and a calliper-shaped lower terminal. This latch resembles patterns seen in the Laurentians' rural areas and was likely forged in Quebec. Similar to the handle's backplate, the heavy-duty latch bar is also mounted on a full-length 3/16" steel backplate, which has the latch bar's guide attached. The keeper is also heavy-duty steel, shaped to match the design details in other parts of the set.

The handle is 3 1/2" wide, 15" tall, paired with an 11" latch bar assembly, which has a lift knob. The large keeper plate is 2 1/4" wide and 5 1/4" tall.
