Superlatively designed Suffolk thumblatch ca. 1740-1840

Museum-grade metalwork is displayed on this immense Suffolk thumblatch featuring swordfish spears (or "bills") on large oval upper and lower terminals. Found in Massachusetts, USA, the home state of the first forge dedicated to producing hardware in the USA, all five components of this original set are in excellent condition. Evidence of slight wear on the latch bar where it rested in the keeper indicates this was a well-used, but well-cared-for relic.

Handle 5 1/2" wide, 16 5/8" tall, with 22" latch bar tip to tip.
