Early hand-forged, onion themed, Suffolk thumblatch ca. 1740-1840

Unique vegetable-themed early Suffolk thumblatch featuring the maker's subtle blacksmithing talent with a large onion-shaped upper terminal and a smaller inverted version at the other end. This latch may have secured an affluent owner's exit to the garden. 

The handle is 3" wide, 101/2" tall, and has a 17 1/2" latch bar. The forged guide and keeper are meant to be driven and peened upon installation.
