This early antique plate or "wishbone" latch, nick-named after its spring configuration, was crafted for a right-hand door. Found in the West Midlands, U.K. this design took the next steps towards cased locks- also called  box locks or rim locks- which totally enclosed the lock's components. This early latch leaves the rear of the face of the plate lock open, but mounts the case on the surface of the door, avoiding any carpentry .

This plate latch is 4 1/2"x 3 3/8", features a privacy latch, and the keeper is recently made.

Although tiny Georgian brass knobs are available and correct ($70/pr) when paired with a recently made Georgian-style rosette ($30), any combination of knobs and exterior trims can be used. Shop for "Parts and Components" in the Three Centuries of Hardware dropdown menu.
