This early antique plate or "wishbone" latch, nick-named due to its spring configuration, was crafted for a right-hand door. This design took the next steps towards cased locks- also called box locks, or rim locks, which enclosed components. This early design leaves the rear of the face of the plate lock open, thus requiring a recess to be cut into the door.
This plate latch is 3 3/8"x 3 3/4", features a privacy latch, and the keeper is recently made.
Although tiny Georgian brass knobs are available and correct ($70/pr) when paired with a recently made Georgian-style rosette ($30), any combination of knobs and exterior trims can be used. Shop for "Parts and Components" in the Three Centuries of Hardware dropdown menu.
